If you use EveryAction or NGP VAN to manage your email program, we strongly recommend connecting them to your Civic Shout account to ensure your new email subscribers are in your CRM and ready to be contacted within seconds of joining your list.
Connecting either platform to Civic Shout is a secure and simple process that has tangible benefits and will save you from downloading and uploading CSV files.
The process for setting up EveryAction or NGP VAN is the same for both (to keep things simple, we'll say EA/NGP in this guide to reference the two platforms), so just follow the guide as is regardless of which platform we mention.
Once connected, as folks sign your Civic Shout petition ads, their contact info will instantly flow into EA/NGP where you’ll be able to find them via an origin Source Code, Tag, and optionally, an additional Activist Code that’ll be added to their new or existing profiles.
We’ll talk more about your configuration options after we get your connection set up.
Step 1: Get your API Key and Application Name from EA/NGP. Watch the video below for step-by-step guidance.
Step 2: Go to Civic Shout and add the API Key and Application Name to your account as shown in this video.
Now that you're set up, when folks sign your Civic Shout petitions, their contact info will be instantly available in EA/NGP.
Continuing with your configuration options… We’ve developed two different integration modes to choose from, Default and Advanced.
Default is great for most groups and requires zero configuration—as it’s the default. Advanced mode, gives you the power to work with more data in EA/NGP but requires a little configuration for each petition you publish.
Default mode:
When you set up your integration, we automatically add a Source Code to your EA/NGP account named "Civic Shout integration". When new folks sign any of your Civic Shout petition ads, this code gets added to their profile in EA/NGP.
We also add a Tag to each new or existing signer in EA/NGP so you can manage them based on specific Civic Shout petition ads they’ve signed.
Tags get created for you automatically and follow a predictable naming convention. We take the headline of your Civic Shout petition and simply append “Civic Shout” to it.
So for instance, if you create a Civic Shout petition with the headline “Impeach Clarence Thomas!” Anyone who signs it will have the Tag “Civic Shout–Impeach Clarence Thomas!” added to their profile.
Default mode's Source Code and Tag work by automatically and require no configuration.
Advanced mode:
If you have requirements that go beyond the standard Source Code and Tag that are part of Default mode, you can ask us to enable Advanced mode for your account.
Advanced mode enables you to assign one Source Code (which overrides the default “Civic Shout integration” code) and one Activist Code per petition. Giving you additional control of your EA/NGP data at the petition level.
Remember, you’ll only have access to the Advanced mode controls (which are on every petition screen) if you ask us to enable them. Let us know if you’re interested.
Advance mode controls for a petition ad.
That should sum it up. Please note the message below, and reach out if you have any questions. support@civicshout.com
IMPORTANT: Your integration will not work as expected if you alter Civic Shout-created Source Codes, Activist Codes, or Tags from within your EA/NGP account. This includes deleting, renaming, or nesting them under parent tags.
