If you use EveryAction or NGP VAN to manage your email program, we strongly recommend connecting them to your Civic Shout account to ensure your new email community members are in your CRM and ready to be contacted within seconds of signing up for your list.

Connecting either platform to Civic Shout is a secure and simple process that has tangible benefits–and will save you from downloading and uploading CSV files.

The process for setting up EveryAction or NGP VAN is the same for both (to keep things simple, we'll say EA/NGP in this guide to reference the two platforms), so just follow the guide as is regardless of which platform we mention.

Once connected, as folks sign your Civic Shout petitions, their contact info will instantly flow into EA/NGP where you’ll be able to find them via an origin SourceCode and petition-specific Tag that’ll be added to their new or existing profiles.

We’ll talk more about how to manage your Civic Shout contacts in EA/NGP after we get your connection set up.

Step 1: Get your API Key and Application Name from EA/NGP. Watch the video below for step-by-step guidance.

Step 2: Go to Civic Shout and add the API Key and Application Name to your account as shown in this video.

Now that you're set up... as folks sign your Civic Shout petitions, their contact info will be instantly available in EA/NGP.

So that you can search for them and add them to lists, etc., we add two different codes to each signer within your EA/NGP account.

The first one is what EA/NGP calls a SourceCode, you may also see it called an Origin SourceCode in their dashboard.

When you set up your integration, we automatically add a SourceCode to your EA/NGP account called "Civic Shout integration". When new folks sign your Civic Shout petitions, this code gets added to their profile in EA/NGP.

This "Civic Shout integration" SourceCode provides a dedicated mechanism to easily track all new activists that Civic Shout generates for you.

Beyond the SourceCode, we also add a Tag to each new or existing signer in EA/NGP so you can manage them based on specific Civic Shout petitions they’ve signed.

Tags follow a predictable naming convention… We take the headline of your Civic Shout petition and simply append “Civic Shout” to it.

So for instance, if you create a Civic Shout petition with the headline “Impeach Clarence Thomas!” Anyone who signs it will have the Tag “Civic Shout–Impeach Clarence Thomas!” added to their profile, along with the "Civic Shout integration" SourceCode.

You can then use that Tag or SourceCode as a search parameter when building a list or for any search-related function where you want to group signers.

IMPORTANT: Your integration will not work as expected if you alter the Civic Shout-created SourceCode or Tags in any way (I.E. by deleting them, renaming them, or nesting them under parent tags, etc...). We designed the integration to be simple but powerful and should enable you to do anything you need to without making any changes.
